Step 2 · Suitability

Is an Ecoglo system appropriate?

Answer at project or zone level. The tool identifies where standard Ecoglo guidance appears suitable, and where electrical or professional assessment remains necessary.

Can the escape route be clearly defined? A specific route must be capable of being marked and followed.

Are the external changes in level exposed to unobstructed daylight, ie less than 2 m under a canopy, or is the external change in level more than 2 m under a canopy? Photoluminescent path markings charge with sunlight. Installations more than 2 m under a canopy do not charge reliably.

Are there hazards that path marking cannot make safe? Dangerous machinery or unseen hazards require separate treatment.

Are any signs required to be visible from more than 24 m? The Ecoglo exit signs are rated to a 24 metres maximum viewing distance. Additional exit signs may be required if the viewing distance exceeds 24 metres.

From any start point to the nearest external change in level, is the travel distance greater than 20 metres? Beyond 20 metres, emergency lighting is required for the remainder of the escape route.

Scope and limitations

What an Ecoglo system covers on this project, and what it leaves to the appointed designers.

The Specifier covers external changes in level and internal hybrid LED exit signs. Anything else on the escape route is outside it.
No emergency lighting is designed, specified or implied on any compliance pathway. Where the escape route needs it, an electrical emergency lighting designer is required.
The markings are photoluminescent and charge on daylight. The charging basis has to be recorded on the architectural set, and a location more than 2 m under a canopy does not charge reliably.
The exit signs are rated to a 24 metres maximum viewing distance. Additional exit signs may be required where the viewing distance exceeds 24 metres.
Products are selected here as codes; sizes and profiles within a code are confirmed at detailed design against the built dimensions.
Installation is by others, to the controlled Ecoglo instructions carried in the pack. The notes here are the parts of those instructions that change a drawing or a programme.
The output is not an Ecoglo approval. Final design, coordination and producer statements remain with the appointed project designers.

Review the project and take the pack

Check the scope, assumptions and responsibilities, then generate the package. Unresolved items travel with the pack rather than being silently assumed.
